Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's attempts at popular recognition were unsuccessful. Before any new material could even be put out two labels signed, then dropped Perry. Capitol Records did release Perry's Ur So Gay, which attracted a small amount of attention for its cheerfully joking title. I kissed a Girl - an ode to sexual curiosity released several months later. The track featured a raunchy electro-pop sound, and had a strong stance. The song was controversial and critics were critical of it for encouraging same-sex relationships and other charged that it depicted a sexually explicit scene which appealed to men's desires for female sexuality. I Kissed a Girl, the combination of excitement with a sophisticated melody, helped I Kissed a Girl to be a top-rated hit in many countries and drive sales for her album One of the Boys. Hot N Cold, Perry's lively and sharply-tongued album that included its second hit single also was a hit. The album which Perry composed herself sold more than three million copies.
